The City of Shawano requires that all dogs and cats five months of age or older be licensed. The license year is January 1 through December 31. In order to process a dog and/or cat license, a current rabies vaccination record must be provided. This information can be obtained from your veterinarian.

To apply for a dog or cat license in person, please bring the animals current rabies certificate to Shawano City Hall during regular business hours. Shawano City Hall is located at 127 S Sawyer Street, Shawano and is open for regular business hours Monday - Thursday from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm and Friday from 7:00 am to 11:00 am, except certain holidays.

City Municipal Code prohibits dogs and cats from running at large within the City limits. A dog, cat or other domestic animal shall be considered to be running at large if it is off the premises of its owner and not under the control of the owner or some other person.
All dogs shall be kept on a leash no longer than 8' at all times when off the premises of their owner and no dogs are permitted in a public cemetery except when confined within a vehicle.
The owner of an animal shall promptly remove and dispose of in a sanitary manner any excreta deposited by such animal upon any public or private property. Violations of these municipal ordinances are subject to citations and/or fines.
